I run the Best of Times Short Story Competitions twice a year: once in Autumn and once in Spring. I advertise them to writers' groups and on Facebook. - C. A. Broadribb.


The Best of Times Short Story Competition #37

Autumn 2024

Closes 30 April 2024



What to enter:

Humorous short stories (any theme) up to 2500 words.


Prize Money:

First prize:      60% of total entry fees received.
Second prize: 15% of total entry fees received.
Third prize:       5% of total entry fees received.
There will also be certificates for highly commended and commended stories.


Conditions of entry:

You can enter as many times as you like.
Each story must be in English and be your own original work (written without assistance from AI software).
Stories that have won a prize or certificate in a previous Best of Times competition are ineligible for further prizes or certificates.


E-mailed entries:

Entry fee is $10 per story. Use PayPal to pay cabbook-37@yahoo.com
In your email include your name and postal address, story title and word count, and where you heard about the competition.
You will be notified of future Best of Times competitions by email unless you request not to be.
Don't include your name on the story itself.
Send your story as an attachment to cabbook-37@yahoo.com


Postal entries:

Entry fee is $10 per story. Send a cheque or money order made out to Chris Broadribb.
Include a cover sheet with your name and postal address, story title and word count, and where you heard about the competition.
If you would like an electronic copy of the results and be notified of future Best of Times competitions then please provide your email address.
Don't include your name on the story itself.
Include a small SSAE for a results sheet, or a large SSAE if you would like your story to be returned too.

Results:

The list of winners will be displayed on this webpage by the end of June 2024.
Winners will also be notified by email or post.
Winning stories will be published on the competition webpages where the writers agree.
Writers will retain copyright of their stories.
